Sarai Mughal is a village of Rajpura tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Rajpura, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ghanaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037074, and it covers 46 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 475 people in Sarai Mughal: 244 men and 231 women, living in 91 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 46 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,033 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 947 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 63, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 387 people, about 81 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 84.47 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 91.47 per cent and women at 77.11 per cent. The census recorded 145 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 139 main workers, the largest group, 122, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 13 cultivators on their own land and 2 agricultural labourers.
