Tarkhan Majra is a village of Samana tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Samana, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Samana community development block and is served by the Tarkhan Mazra gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036223, and it covers 236 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,283 people in Tarkhan Majra: 677 men and 606 women, living in 229 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 236 hectares, the population density works out to about 544 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 895 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 176, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 229 people, about 18 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 71.45 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 76.34 per cent and women at 66.1 per cent. The census recorded 717 workers, about 56 per cent of the village. Of the 605 main workers, the largest group, 539, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 51 cultivators on their own land and 15 agricultural labourers.
