Bamnara is a village of Morinda tehsil in Rupnagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Kurali, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Morinda community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038912, and it covers 336 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,195 people in Bamnara: 613 men and 582 women, living in 238 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 336 hectares, the population density works out to about 356 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 949 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 118, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 671 people, about 56 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 80.97 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.18 per cent and women at 75.52 per cent. The census recorded 464 workers, about 39 per cent of the village. Of the 261 main workers, the largest group, 162, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 84 cultivators on their own land and 9 household industry workers. A further 203 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Bamnara's land. Of the village's 336 hectares, 311 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 308 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (308 hectares).
