Najabat Kokrian is a village in Muktsar tehsil of Sri Muktsar Sahib district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Sri Muktsar Sahib, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Muktsar community development block and is served by the Singhpur Kokrian gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035432, and it covers 303 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 190 people in Najabat Kokrian: 101 men and 89 women, living in 38 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 303 hectares, the population density works out to about 63 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 881 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 22, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 63 people, about 33 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 44.64 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 55.81 per cent and women at 32.93 per cent. The census recorded 52 workers, about 27 per cent of the village. Of the 49 main workers, the largest group, 25, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 12 other workers in trade, transport and services and 11 agricultural labourers. A further 3 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Najabat Kokrian's land. Of the village's 303 hectares, 174 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (134 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (40 hectares). About 36 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 6 hours a day.
