Algon is a large village in Patti tehsil of [Tarn Taran](https://jugti.com/kosh/places/tarn-taran/) district, Punjab, in the Majha region, out in the Bhikhiwind border belt west of [Patti](https://jugti.com/kosh/places/patti/). The 2011 directory recorded Patti, about 20 kilometres away, as its nearest town, and the district headquarters at Tarn Taran is about 58 kilometres away. In the census record Algon carries village code 038087, covers 2,445 hectares and has PIN code 143303\. It falls in the Bhikhiwind community development block, and school records for its settlements place it in the Khem Karan assembly constituency and the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency. The census counts ONE village here: Algon, serial 95 in Patti tehsil, village code 038087, with a single gram panchayat named Algon. There is no separate census village called Algon Kalan or Algon Khurd. What the current local government listings show is that this one census village has been divided for panchayat administration among seven gram panchayats: Algon Kalan, Algon Khurd, Algon Kothi, Algon Theh Boparai, Chhana, Wara Sher Singh and Wara Telian. Of the village's 2,445 hectares, 2,159 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated, overwhelmingly from canals (2,036 hectares), with wells and tube-wells adding 123 hectares. This is one of the purest canal villages of the Tarn Taran plain, its fields watered by the canal system that serves the Bhikhiwind belt. About 286 hectares were barren or uncultivable land, the rough patches of the old riverine country toward the border. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. ## Schools Education in the village runs through one government primary school, one government middle school, one government secondary school and one government senior secondary school in the census directory's count, so children can study in Algon up to Class 12, and the directory listings add government and private pre-primary, primary and middle schools. Because the village is a family of settlements, its schools carry settlement names: school records date the government elementary school at Algon Khurd to 1919, among the oldest village schools recorded in this programme, the elementary school at Algon Kothi to 1973 and the one at Algon Kalan to 1976, with a government high school for girls at Algon Kothi, established in 1997, teaching classes 6 to 10\.
