Pindian is a village in Khadur Sahib tehsil of Tarn Taran district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Patti, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Khadur Sahib community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038274, and it covers 289 hectares. ## Population and households The 2011 census counted 1,049 people in Pindian: 549 men and 500 women, living in 195 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 289 hectares, the population density works out to about 363 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 911 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 129, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 529 people, about 50 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded. Literacy in 2011 stood at 67.07 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 71.91 per cent and women at 61.85 per cent. The census recorded 319 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. Of the 315 main workers, the largest group, 124, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 108 other workers in trade, transport and services and 79 cultivators on their own land. A further 4 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year. ## Land and farming Farming covers most of Pindian's land. Of the village's 289 hectares, 271 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (112 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (159 hectares). Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day.
