Early life
Mankirt Aulakh was born on 2 October 1990 in the village of Behbalpur in Fatehabad district, Haryana, into a Sikh Jatt family. He is ethnically and culturally Punjabi, though born across the state border. He moved to Chandigarh for further studies, graduating from DAV College, where he competed in singing competitions at college youth festivals.
Before music, Aulakh was a sportsman — a pro-kabaddi player known as 'Money Palawan' and a wrestler. He left wrestling after a knee injury, and that closed door pushed him toward the stage.
Career
Aulakh started his singing career in 2013 with the debut song 'Darshan Karke' with DJ Sanj, which failed to connect. He went away, worked on his voice and his look, and returned in 2014 with 'Kaka Ji' — a worldwide hit that made his name. Then came the song that made him a household name: 'Gallan Mithiyan' (2015), written by Bittu Cheema, which crossed 100 million views on YouTube and won him the Best New Age Vocalist award at the PTC Punjabi Music Awards and the Mirchi Music Awards in 2016.
The hits kept coming: 'Badnam', 'Jugaadi Jatt', 'Jatt Da Blood', 'Daang', 'Chandigarh', 'Vail', 'Ali Baba' and '8 Raflaan', making him one of the defining voices of the streaming-era Punjabi pop boom. He made his acting debut in the Punjabi film Main Teri Tu Mera (2016), and has since appeared in films including Qismat (2018) and Fuffad Ji (2022).
Music style
Aulakh's sound is high-energy Punjabi pop with hip-hop edges — built for the dance floor and the gym playlist. His videos, often featuring top models and slick production, made him one of the most recognizable faces of the YouTube generation of Punjabi music.
Personal life
Based between Chandigarh and Mumbai, Aulakh keeps his family life private. He is known for his friendships within the industry, including close ties with Parmish Verma, Ammy Virk and lyricist Prince Rakhdi.
Legacy
Mankirt Aulakh's arc — sportsman to self-made music entrepreneur — is the streaming era's classic Punjabi success story: a flop debut, a comeback built on craft, and a catalog of hits that defined a decade of Punjabi pop.
