Early life
Nimratpal Kaur Khaira was born on 8 August 1992 in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, the only child of her parents. She studied at DAV Centenary School, Batala, earned a bachelor's degree in biotechnology from Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, and then pursued a post-graduation in music from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. She learned classical music from Sushil Narang. Her first steps into the spotlight came as a contestant on the singing reality show Awaaz Punjab Di, which she followed by winning Voice of Punjab season 3.
Music career
Her debut song was 'Rab Karke', a 2015 duet with Nishawn Bhullar released on Punjab Records. In 2016 she sang 'Ishq Kacheri' and 'SP De Rank Wargi', and 'Ishq Kacheri' became the breakout hit that made her a household name. A string of successful singles followed — 'Dubai Wale Sheikh', 'Brobar Boli', 'Saunkan Saunkne', 'Salute Wajde', 'Suit' and 'Rohab Rakhdi' — each adding to her reputation for strong, folk-rooted female vocals.
In 2022 she released her debut album Nimmo, a collection that showed her range across romantic and traditional numbers. She has also lent her voice to film soundtracks and continues to be one of the busiest female voices in Punjabi music.
Film career
Khaira made her acting debut as Harleen Kaur in Lahoriye (2017), opposite Amrinder Gill and Sargun Mehta, winning the Best Female Vocalist award at the Brit Asia Awards for the film's music. She played Harman in Afsar (2018), Mohni in Teeja Punjab (2021) — for which she won Best Actress at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards — and Kamaljot in the period romance Jodi (2023) opposite Diljit Dosanjh.
Personal life
Khaira keeps her personal life largely private. She is known among colleagues for a grounded, professional approach and remains the only child of a close-knit family.
