Where is Bhindi Saidan?

Bhindi Saidan is a village of Lopoke tehsil in Amritsar district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Ajnala, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Chogawan community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037172, and it covers 803 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 6,791 people in Bhindi Saidan: 3,533 men and 3,258 women, living in 1,365 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 803 hectares, the population density works out to about 846 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 922 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 1,299, about 19 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 5,862 people, about 86 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 17.04 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 23.06 per cent and women at 10.64 per cent. The census recorded 3,762 workers, about 55 per cent of the village. Of the 3,407 main workers, the largest group, 3,217, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 125 other workers in trade, transport and services and 45 cultivators on their own land. A further 355 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
