Where is Kohala (Ajnala)?

Kohala (Ajnala) is a village in Lopoke tehsil of Amritsar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Raja Sansi, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Chogawan community development block and is served by the Kohala gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037297, and it covers 542 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,627 people in Kohala (Ajnala): 1,371 men and 1,256 women, living in 404 households, an average of about 6.5 people per household. Spread over its 542 hectares, the population density works out to about 485 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 916 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 297, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,350 people, about 51 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Lopoke, the tehsil headquarters, and Amritsar city, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Cheleke, Tapiala and Joeke.
