Where is Baur?

Baur is a village in Khamanon tehsil of Fatehgarh Sahib district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Bassi Pathana, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Khamanon community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032917, and it covers 198 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 770 people in Baur: 405 men and 365 women, living in 157 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 198 hectares, the population density works out to about 389 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 901 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 81, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 368 people, about 48 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.37 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 83.11 per cent and women at 72.98 per cent. The census recorded 371 workers, about 48 per cent of the village. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (178 hectares). About 20 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. With 81 cultivators and 13 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.

Neighbouring villages include Kheri Naudh Singh, Kotla Masud, Dholewal and Sohavi.
