Where is Chuni Kalan?

Chuni Kalan is a village of Bassi Pathana tehsil in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Bassi Pathana, about 18 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Khera community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032541, and it covers 363 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,813 people in Chuni Kalan: 1,502 men and 1,311 women, living in 510 households, an average of about 5.5 people per household. Spread over its 363 hectares, the population density works out to about 775 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 873 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 291, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 780 people, about 28 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 84.42 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 88.59 per cent and women at 79.68 per cent. The census recorded 918 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. A further 91 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
