Where is Chupati?

Chupati is a village in Guru Harsahai tehsil of Ferozepur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Guru Har Sahai, about 14 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Mamdot community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034731, and it covers 149 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 624 people in Chupati: 337 men and 287 women, living in 141 households, an average of about 4.4 people per household. Spread over its 149 hectares, the population density works out to about 419 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 852 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 74, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 547 people, about 88 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 65.09 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 73.65 per cent and women at 55.12 per cent. The census recorded 181 workers, about 29 per cent of the village. Of the 161 main workers, the largest group, 71, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 45 cultivators on their own land and 45 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 20 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (140 hectares). About 9 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
