History

Giddarbaha is an old mandi town of Sri Muktsar Sahib district, in a region steeped in Sikh history — nearby Sri Muktsar Sahib was the site of the Battle of Muktsar in 1705. The town developed as the grain market for the surrounding villages, and its railway station linked it to the Bathinda–Fazilka region.

After Partition, refugees settled here and the town expanded. It remains a tehsil-level market town serving a wide rural area.

Geography & people

Giddarbaha stands east of Sri Muktsar Sahib city, in wheat, paddy and cotton country. The 2011 census counted 45,370 residents. The town is the commercial centre for its tehsil area.
