Bangowani is a village in Kalanaur tehsil of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Dhariwal, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dhariwal community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028090, and it covers 348 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,048 people in Bangowani: 1,063 men and 985 women, living in 396 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 348 hectares, the population density works out to about 589 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 927 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 222, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 458 people, about 22 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 75.36 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 81.16 per cent and women at 69.06 per cent.
