Where is Ali Chak?

Ali Chak is a village of Jalandhar West tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Jalandhar, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalandhar (West) community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030438, and it covers 131 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 975 people in Ali Chak: 496 men and 479 women, living in 202 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 131 hectares, the population density works out to about 743 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 966 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 107, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 575 people, about 59 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.95 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.06 per cent and women at 74.83 per cent. The census recorded 369 workers, about 38 per cent of the village. Of the 210 main workers, the largest group, 126, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 67 cultivators on their own land and 17 agricultural labourers. A further 159 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
