Where is Bagga?

Bagga is a village of Shahkot tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Shahkot, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Shahkot community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029729, and it covers 198 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,005 people in Bagga: 524 men and 481 women, living in 180 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 198 hectares, the population density works out to about 507 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 918 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 104, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 487 people, about 48 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 72.36 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 74.84 per cent and women at 69.72 per cent.
