Where is Chawinda?

Chawinda is a village in Shahkot tehsil of Jalandhar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Shahkot, about 17 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nakodar community development block and is served by the Billi Chao gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029850, and it covers 158 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 145 people in Chawinda: 73 men and 72 women, living in 32 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 158 hectares, the population density works out to about 92 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 986 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 17, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 79 people, about 54 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 67.19 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 72.31 per cent and women at 61.9 per cent. The census recorded 52 workers, about 36 per cent of the village.
