Where is Fazalpur?

Fazalpur is a village in Jalandhar West tehsil of Jalandhar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Kartarpur, about 11 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalandhar (West) community development block and is served by the Chuhar gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030532, and it covers 120 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 289 people in Fazalpur: 141 men and 148 women, living in 56 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 120 hectares, the population density works out to about 241 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1050 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 39, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 142 people, about 49 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 52.8 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 58.46 per cent and women at 46.67 per cent. The census recorded 143 workers, about 49 per cent of the village. Of the 109 main workers, the largest group, 50, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 48 other workers in trade, transport and services and 11 cultivators on their own land. A further 34 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Neighbouring villages include Brahampur, Basrampur, Pattar Khurd and Khusropur (Jalandhar II).
