Where is Lallian Kalan?

Lallian Kalan is a village of Jalandhar West tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Jalandhar, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalandhar (West) community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030409, and it covers 388 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,528 people in Lallian Kalan: 786 men and 742 women, living in 349 households, an average of about 4.4 people per household. Spread over its 388 hectares, the population density works out to about 394 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 944 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 125, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 644 people, about 42 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 85.82 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 90.14 per cent and women at 81.26 per cent. The census recorded 570 workers, about 37 per cent of the village. Of the 488 main workers, the largest group, 311, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 130 cultivators on their own land and 33 household industry workers. A further 82 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
