Sammipur is a village in Jalandhar West tehsil of Jalandhar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Jalandhar, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalandhar (West) community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030417, and it covers 214 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,664 people in Sammipur: 857 men and 807 women, living in 346 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 214 hectares, the population density works out to about 778 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 942 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 159, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,263 people, about 76 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 82.39 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 87.86 per cent and women at 76.73 per cent. The census recorded 523 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 512 main workers, the largest group, 417, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 41 cultivators on their own land and 35 agricultural labourers. A further 11 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
