Sarmastpur is a village of Jalandhar West tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Jalandhar, about 11 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalandhar (West) community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030480, and it covers 178 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,310 people in Sarmastpur: 682 men and 628 women, living in 284 households, an average of about 4.6 people per household. Spread over its 178 hectares, the population density works out to about 736 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 921 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 130, about 10 per cent of the village.
