Where is Singhpur?

Singhpur is a village in Nakodar tehsil of Jalandhar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Nakodar, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nakodar community development block and is served by the Singhpur Dona gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029883, and it covers 151 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 585 people in Singhpur: 310 men and 275 women, living in 94 households, an average of about 6.2 people per household. Spread over its 151 hectares, the population density works out to about 387 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 887 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 85, about 15 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 416 people, about 71 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 67.6 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 70.57 per cent and women at 64.26 per cent. The census recorded 258 workers, about 44 per cent of the village. Of the 253 main workers, the largest group, 182, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 42 other workers in trade, transport and services and 17 cultivators on their own land. A further 5 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Neighbouring villages include Rasulpur Kalan, Saham, Ladhewali and Awan Chaharmi.
