Where is Talwara?

Talwara is a village in Jalandhar West tehsil of Jalandhar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Jalandhar, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalandhar (West) community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030461, and it covers 185 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 253 people in Talwara: 127 men and 126 women, living in 52 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 185 hectares, the population density works out to about 137 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 992 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 31, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 115 people, about 45 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 73.42 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 77.57 per cent and women at 69.57 per cent. The census recorded 100 workers, about 40 per cent of the village. Of the 67 main workers, the largest group, 28, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 23 other workers in trade, transport and services and 16 agricultural labourers. A further 33 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
