Where is Lalpur?

Lalpur is a village in Khadur Sahib tehsil of Tarn Taran district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Patti, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Naushera Pannuan community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038279, and it covers 516 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,800 people in Lalpur: 1,489 men and 1,311 women, living in 537 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 516 hectares, the population density works out to about 543 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 880 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 292, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 706 people, about 25 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 75.16 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 81.3 per cent and women at 68.32 per cent. The census recorded 924 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 752 main workers, the largest group, 484, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 146 agricultural labourers and 64 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 172 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
