Where is Barwala?

Barwala is a village of Ludhiana East tehsil in Ludhiana district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sahnewal, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ludhiana-I community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033454, and it covers 273 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,395 people in Barwala: 1,341 men and 1,054 women, living in 472 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 273 hectares, the population density works out to about 877 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 786 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 274, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,137 people, about 47 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
