Where is Bhaman Kalan?

Bhaman Kalan is a village in Ludhiana East tehsil of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Machhiwara, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ludhiana-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033374, and it covers 721 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,137 people in Bhaman Kalan: 585 men and 552 women, living in 214 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 721 hectares, the population density works out to about 158 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 944 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 127, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 473 people, about 42 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.6 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.48 per cent and women at 74.39 per cent. The census recorded 311 workers, about 27 per cent of the village. Of the 282 main workers, the largest group, 145, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 69 agricultural labourers and 62 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 29 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Neighbouring villages include Sangeh, Hadia, Uppal and Hayatpura.
