Kalis Kalan is a village in Ludhiana East tehsil of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Machhiwara, about 9 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ludhiana-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033388, and it covers 121 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,079 people in Kalis Kalan: 555 men and 524 women, living in 190 households, an average of about 5.7 people per household. Spread over its 121 hectares, the population density works out to about 892 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 944 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 149, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 96 people, about 9 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 67.31 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 72.77 per cent and women at 61.47 per cent. The census recorded 335 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 178 main workers, the largest group, 104, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 37 agricultural labourers and 36 cultivators on their own land. A further 157 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Neighbouring villages include Fatehgarh Gujjran, Bahadurpur, Fatehgarh Jattan and Khanpur Bet.
