Where is Khasi Khurd?

Khasi Khurd is a village in Ludhiana East tehsil of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Ludhiana, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ludhiana-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033462, and it covers 49 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 626 people in Khasi Khurd: 342 men and 284 women, living in 123 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 49 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,278 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 830 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 76, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 18 people, about 3 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 65.27 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 67.68 per cent and women at 62.45 per cent. The census recorded 202 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 199 main workers, the largest group, 165, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 12 cultivators on their own land and 11 agricultural labourers. A further 3 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (42 hectares). About 7 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
