Where is Paddi?

Paddi is a village of Ludhiana East tehsil in Ludhiana district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sahnewal, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dehlon community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033511, and it covers 369 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,122 people in Paddi: 1,120 men and 1,002 women, living in 370 households, an average of about 5.7 people per household. Spread over its 369 hectares, the population density works out to about 575 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 895 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 239, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,187 people, about 56 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 80.83 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.82 per cent and women at 76.35 per cent. The census recorded 724 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 596 main workers, the largest group, 332, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 137 cultivators on their own land and 117 agricultural labourers. A further 128 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
