Where is Kasampur?

Kasampur is a village in Ahmedgarh tehsil of Malerkotla district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Malerkotla, about 13 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Malerkotla-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039436, and it covers 170 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 764 people in Kasampur: 396 men and 368 women, living in 145 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 170 hectares, the population density works out to about 449 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 929 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 82, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 212 people, about 28 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.3 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.88 per cent and women at 70.12 per cent. The census recorded 296 workers, about 39 per cent of the village. A further 38 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
