Where is Matauli?

Matauli is a village of Patran tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Patran, about 13 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Patran community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036242, and it covers 691 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,925 people in Matauli: 1,005 men and 920 women, living in 326 households, an average of about 5.9 people per household. Spread over its 691 hectares, the population density works out to about 279 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 915 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 337, about 18 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,029 people, about 53 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 66.18 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 76.41 per cent and women at 54.95 per cent. The census recorded 573 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. A further 14 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
