Where is Ram Nagar?

Ram Nagar is a village of Patiala tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sanaur, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhunerheri community development block and is served by the Ram Nagar Chuni Wala Urf Devi Nagar, Adda Devigarh gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036696, and it covers 124 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 4,453 people in Ram Nagar: 2,336 men and 2,117 women, living in 856 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 124 hectares, the population density works out to about 3,591 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 906 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 555, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 277 people, about 6 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 73.58 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 80.02 per cent and women at 66.63 per cent. The census recorded 1,365 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 1,346 main workers, the largest group, 874, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 290 agricultural labourers and 118 cultivators on their own land. A further 19 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Neighbouring villages include Bure Majra, Dhandian, Naraingarh Urf Majra and Pipal Kheri Urf Mahadevpur.
