About Jugti

Today's news from Punjab and the diaspora, and a lasting record of its people, places, books, words and religion.

Jugti is an English-first news site for Punjab and the Punjabi diaspora. We report what is happening in Punjab, in India and in Punjabi communities abroad, in plain and calm English. Many stories can also be read in Punjabi with one click.

What we cover

The news is in six sections:

The Kosh

Alongside the news, the Kosh is a growing record of Punjab's people, places, books, words and religion. Every entry opens with a short answer, then the full story, the facts and the sources, and says when an editor has reviewed it. News stories link to the Kosh entries they mention, so you can go from a headline to the background behind it.

How we work

We aim for accurate, clearly sourced reporting in a calm tone: no alarms, no autoplay and no clickbait. Jugti is an independent publication, and the Jugti team is responsible for everything published here. We use AI tools to help research, draft, translate and illustrate, and we say so in our editorial standards. You can also read how we handle corrections.

Jugti is free to read. Some links on the site earn us a commission (for example links to buy a book) and some content may be sponsored. Both are always labelled, and neither changes what we write.
