Vancouver is a port city in British Columbia, Canada, where the Punjabi community in Canada began. Sikh pioneers arrived in the early 1900s, founded the Khalsa Diwan Society in 1906 and built Canada's first gurdwara in 1908, and South Vancouver's Punjabi Market is the oldest Punjabi district in North America. The 2021 census counted 16,535 Sikhs in the city and 222,165 across Metro Vancouver.
