Where is Bassi Ballo?

Bassi Ballo is a village of Hoshiarpur tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 20 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhunga community development block and is served by the Bassiballo gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031399, and it covers 75 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,109 people in Bassi Ballo: 567 men and 542 women, living in 217 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 75 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,479 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 956 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 128, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 225 people, about 20 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 87.26 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 94.6 per cent and women at 79.63 per cent.
