Where is Dunewala?

Dunewala is a village of Talwandi Sabo tehsil in Bathinda district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Raman, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sangat community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035838, and it covers 487 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,370 people in Dunewala: 727 men and 643 women, living in 246 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 487 hectares, the population density works out to about 281 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 884 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 163, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 303 people, about 22 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 65.7 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 74.61 per cent and women at 55.71 per cent. Irrigation came mainly from canals (429 hectares). About 58 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 10 hours a day. With 242 cultivators and 145 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
