Chak Sotrian is a village in Jalalabad tehsil of Fazilka district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Jalalabad, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalalabad community development block and is served by the CHAK SOTRIAN, Dhani Chowdhari Chhanga Ram, Basti Bawrian gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034972, and it covers 404 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,396 people in Chak Sotrian: 732 men and 664 women, living in 240 households, an average of about 5.8 people per household. Spread over its 404 hectares, the population density works out to about 345 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 907 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 226, about 16 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 775 people, about 56 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 59.91 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 67.21 per cent and women at 51.96 per cent. The census recorded 590 workers, about 42 per cent of the village. Of the 313 main workers, the largest group, 136, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 125 agricultural labourers and 51 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 277 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
