History

Jalalabad is an old mandi town of Fazilka district on the Ferozepur–Fazilka route. Before Partition the area was part of Ferozepur district.

The town developed around its grain market, and the railway station connected it to the region. When Fazilka district was created in 2011, Jalalabad joined the new district.

Geography & people

Jalalabad stands north-east of Fazilka town, in wheat, paddy and cotton country. The 2011 census counted 39,525 residents. The town is the bazaar and service centre for the surrounding villages.

ਇਤਿਹਾਸ

ਜਲਾਲਾਬਾਦ ਫ਼ਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਮੰਡੀ-ਕਸਬਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਫ਼ਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ–ਫ਼ਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਥਿਤ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਇਲਾਕਾ ਵੰਡ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਸੀ।

ਕਸਬਾ ਅਨਾਜ ਮੰਡੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਰੇਲਵੇ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਖੇਤਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਿਆ। 2011 ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਬਣਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਲਾਲਾਬਾਦ ਨਵੇਂ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
