History
Fazilka is a historic town on the India–Pakistan border. Before Partition it was part of Ferozepur district; the Radcliffe Line of 1947 made it a border town, and its trade and demography changed with the new frontier.
The Fazilka sector saw fighting in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, commemorated by the Asafwala War Memorial nearby. On 27 July 2011 Fazilka district was created and the town became its headquarters.
Geography & people
Fazilka stands at Punjab's south-western tip, a few kilometres from the border, in cotton, wheat and kinnow country. The 2011 census counted 76,492 residents. The town is the administrative and commercial centre for the border belt.
Places of interest
The Asafwala War Memorial honours the soldiers of 1971. The railway terminus, the grain market and the border landscape are the town's other draws.
Notable people
Cricketer Shubman Gill was born in Chak Kherewala village of Fazilka district. The town and its villages have sent many officers and soldiers to the armed forces.

ਫ਼ਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ ਭਾਰਤ–ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਸਿਆ ਇੱਕ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ। ਵੰਡ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਹ ਫ਼ਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਸੀ; 1947 ਵਿੱਚ ਰੈੱਡਕਲਿਫ਼ ਲਾਈਨ ਨੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
1971 ਦੀ ਭਾਰਤ–ਪਾਕਿ ਜੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ ਸੈਕਟਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੜਾਈ ਹੋਈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੇੜੇ ਆਸਫ਼ਵਾਲਾ ਯੁੱਧ ਸਮਾਰਕ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। 27 ਜੁਲਾਈ 2011 ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਸਦਰ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਬਣਿਆ।

ਫ਼ਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਦੱਖਣ-ਪੱਛਮੀ ਸਿਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ, ਸਰਹੱਦ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਦੀ ਦੂਰੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਥਿਤ ਹੈ। ਇਲਾਕਾ ਨਰਮੇ, ਕਣਕ ਅਤੇ ਕਿੰਨੂ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
2011 ਦੀ ਮਰਦਮਸ਼ੁਮਾਰੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਆਬਾਦੀ 76,492 ਸੀ। ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਕੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਹੈ।

ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਲੋਕ
ਫ਼ਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਚੱਕ ਖੇਰੇਵਾਲਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟਰ ਸ਼ੁਭਮਨ ਗਿੱਲ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੋਇਆ। ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੇ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਈ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਅਤੇ ਜਵਾਨ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
