Where is Chamb?

Chamb is a village of Dharamkot tehsil in Moga district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dharamkot, about 14 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dharamkot community development block and is served by the Chambo gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034130, and it covers 108 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 260 people in Chamb: 134 men and 126 women, living in 58 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 108 hectares, the population density works out to about 241 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 940 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 28, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 187 people, about 72 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 57.76 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 68.07 per cent and women at 46.9 per cent. The census recorded 69 workers, about 27 per cent of the village.
