Where is Badwala?

Badwala is a village in Bassi Pathana tehsil of Fatehgarh Sahib district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Bassi Pathana, about 9 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bassi Pathana community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032598, and it covers 168 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 726 people in Badwala: 397 men and 329 women, living in 152 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 168 hectares, the population density works out to about 432 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 829 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 60, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 245 people, about 34 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 77.78 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 80.83 per cent and women at 74.18 per cent. The census recorded 258 workers, about 36 per cent of the village. Of the 146 main workers, the largest group, 83, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 44 cultivators on their own land and 10 agricultural labourers. A further 112 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (145 hectares). About 23 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
