Where is Dhunda?

Dhunda is a village of Bassi Pathana tehsil in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Bassi Pathana, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bassi Pathana community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032619, and it covers 119 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 785 people in Dhunda: 420 men and 365 women, living in 157 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 119 hectares, the population density works out to about 660 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 869 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 71, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 277 people, about 35 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 83.47 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 87.76 per cent and women at 78.48 per cent. The census recorded 259 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 248 main workers, the largest group, 112, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 94 cultivators on their own land and 39 agricultural labourers. A further 11 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
