Where is Manderan?

Manderan is a village in Khamanon tehsil of Fatehgarh Sahib district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Khamanon, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Khamanon community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032960, and it covers 198 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 945 people in Manderan: 485 men and 460 women, living in 183 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 198 hectares, the population density works out to about 477 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 948 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 104, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 501 people, about 53 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.95 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 83.33 per cent and women at 74.33 per cent. The census recorded 355 workers, about 38 per cent of the village. A further 86 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Khamanon, the tehsil headquarters, and Fatehgarh Sahib, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Amrala, Jatana Niwan, Gaggarwal and Jatana Uncha.
