Where is Baggewala?

Baggewala is a village in Firozpur tehsil of Ferozepur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Mallanwala Khass, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Firozpur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034562, and it covers 313 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 681 people in Baggewala: 344 men and 337 women, living in 142 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 313 hectares, the population density works out to about 218 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 980 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 94, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 122 people, about 18 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 63.54 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 69.59 per cent and women at 57.39 per cent. The census recorded 180 workers, about 26 per cent of the village. Irrigation came mainly from canals (84 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (198 hectares). About 31 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 15 hours a day. With 123 cultivators and 35 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
