Where is Ittanwali?

Ittanwali is a village of Firozpur tehsil in Ferozepur district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Talwandi Bhai, about 18 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ghall Khurd community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034470, and it covers 357 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,204 people in Ittanwali: 639 men and 565 women, living in 237 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 357 hectares, the population density works out to about 337 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 884 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 126, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 559 people, about 46 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 69.76 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 73.68 per cent and women at 65.35 per cent. The census recorded 534 workers, about 44 per cent of the village. Of the 523 main workers, the largest group, 247, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 140 agricultural labourers and 131 cultivators on their own land. A further 11 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Ittanwali's land. Of the village's 357 hectares, 324 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (58 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (32 hectares). About 33 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
