Nawa Zira is a village in Zira tehsil of Ferozepur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Zira, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Zira community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034385, and it covers 207 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 532 people in Nawa Zira: 263 men and 269 women, living in 98 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 207 hectares, the population density works out to about 257 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1023 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 65, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 360 people, about 68 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 65.52 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 73.28 per cent and women at 57.87 per cent. The census recorded 138 workers, about 26 per cent of the village. Of the 137 main workers, the largest group, 64, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 52 agricultural labourers and 21 cultivators on their own land. Irrigation came mainly from canals (69 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (122 hectares). About 17 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
