Where is Chulla?

Chulla is a village in Dinanagar tehsil of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Gurdaspur, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Gurdaspur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028183, and it covers 131 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,174 people in Chulla: 625 men and 549 women, living in 206 households, an average of about 5.7 people per household. Spread over its 131 hectares, the population density works out to about 896 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 878 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 136, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 375 people, about 32 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 80.83 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 87.13 per cent and women at 73.89 per cent. The census recorded 437 workers, about 37 per cent of the village. A further 92 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (114 hectares). About 17 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
