Halla is a village of Gurdaspur tehsil in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Gurdaspur, about 2 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Gurdaspur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028173, and it covers 110 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,110 people in Halla: 572 men and 538 women, living in 217 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 110 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,009 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 941 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 123, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 656 people, about 59 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 83.38 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 89.59 per cent and women at 76.78 per cent. The census recorded 289 workers, about 26 per cent of the village. A further 35 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
