Kishan Kot is a village of Batala tehsil in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sri Hargobindpur, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sri Hargobindpur community development block and is served by the Kishonkot gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028541, and it covers 85 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 782 people in Kishan Kot: 408 men and 374 women, living in 160 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 85 hectares, the population density works out to about 920 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 917 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 105, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 540 people, about 69 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 68.54 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 73.16 per cent and women at 63.47 per cent. The census recorded 294 workers, about 38 per cent of the village. Of the 223 main workers, the largest group, 134, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 63 agricultural labourers and 25 cultivators on their own land. A further 71 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
